South Shore train service suspended on Saturday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The South Shore train service was suspended for the day because of an early morning accident on Interstate 90.

A semi lost its load of steel on the tracks east of the Gary Metro Station.

No passenger trains were involved but there is extensive damage to the overhead wire and track.

South Shore maintenance crews are on the scene making repairs.

The company that operates the train will update its website when service is back up and running.
