Southwest Michigan Civic Monuments group hosts Unity Walks this summer
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - The Unified Civic Monuments Project is hosting the first of its summer Unity Walks this Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.
The project supports public art in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph that honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the values he instilled in society. The group has raised over half of its $850,000 goal to design and install monuments in both cities to honor Dr. King.
This Saturday’s walk starts at Dwight P. Mitchell City Center Park in Benton Harbor and travels to Margaret B. Upton Arboretum in St. Joseph before returning to City Center Park.
Both parks plan to unveil Dr. King monuments next summer.
The rest of this summer’s walks are scheduled for June 18, July 16 and August 20.
