Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra summer 'Pop Up!' concerts in Michigan

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich.  –  Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra's last "Pop Up!" concert in June heads south to New Buffalo.

The Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra is changing things up as it moves to the Lions Pavilion Park at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 29.

A String Chamber Ensemble of Liya Ma, Carlos Lozano, Mona Mierxiati and J Holzen, will be performing.

Compositions from Dvorak, Mozart, Elgar, Saint-Saens, Duke Ellington, Vitamin String Quartet and Aaron Copeland will be performed and will showcase each of the musicians' virtuosity and versatility.

The concerts are free, small outdoor events of about 45 to 60 minutes in length, performed at various locations and times.

Each concert features a small ensemble of up to five professional musicians.

Attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets and families are encouraged to bring the kids.

The Wood Stock and Grill food truck will be on site for anyone who would like to purchase food or drinks.

The "Pop Up!" concerts will take a break until August as the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra begins its Symphony on the Water’s Edge Summer Series.

The Water’s Edge Summer Series are ticketed concerts are held at the Shadowland Pavilion at Silver Beach County Park.

Concerts in this series begin on July 3 with A Salute to America, July 15 is Ella and Gershwin on the Shore, July 28 and 29 is the musical, The Sound of Music and wraps up the series on August 12 with At Home and Out of This World.

They can also be purchased the day of the concert at the gate.

August 3 – A String Quartet will perform at 6 p.m. at the Krasl Art Center, St. Joseph

August 10 – A Classical Duo will perform at 6 p.m. at the Krasl Art Center, St. Joseph

August 17 – The Dvorak String Quintet will perform at 6 p.m. at the Krasl Art Center, St. Joseph

August 24 – The KalHaven Strings will perform at 6 p.m. at the Dwight P. Mitchell City Park, Benton Harbor

August 31 – A String Quartet will perform at 6 p.m. at The GhostLight Theatre, Benton Harbor
