Special Olympics Unified Champions Day off to the races in Mishawaka
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Mishawaka High School gave children of all abilities the chance to take part in fun and friendly track and field events, at the annual Special Olympics Unified Champions Day.
The event bringing together over 100 Michiana student athletes from kindergarten to eighth grade, to celebrate both competition and inclusion; kids with and without disabilities getting outside and having a good time together.
"We have 25-meter run, we have a 50-meter run, we have hurdles, we have K through two events, and we have some opposite courses that our athletes get to participate in. And we have our unified athletes, where we have our exceptional learners' athletes as well as our general education athletes that support all of our students in these events today," stated Director of Exceptional Learners for School City of Mishawaka Mathew Johns.
Today marks the eighth Unified Champions Day for the School City of Mishawaka, stating the event helps foster collaboration and respect among all of their students.
