Special prosecutor to announce findings for fatal police-involved shooting

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—The special prosecutor investigating the fatal shooting of Eric Logan by a South Bend Police officer will make his findings public on March 6.

Special Prosecutor Richard Hertel, who is the prosecutor in Ripley County, will announce the findings of the investigation alongside of Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter at the County City Building in South Bend.

Hertel took on the case in July 2019, just weeks after the fatal shooting of Eric Logan in June in the 100 block of North William Street.

The officer involved, former Sergeant Ryan O’Neill, resigned from the South Bend Police Department in July. Due to the resignation, there was not an internal affairs investigation into O’Neill.
