SR 23 resurfacing project begins

A section of State Road 23, from Edison to Gumwood/Main, is undergoing a major resurfacing project that begins on Monday.

Preliminary work on this project will last until June and once the pothole heavy stretch of road is patched and curb ramps are reconstructed, INDOT will begin removing layers of old asphalt, replacing it with new asphalt and a surface coating.

The resurfacing project will be broken up into two phases.

Phase 1 is scheduled to last from June to early July and will cover Edison to Cleveland Rd.

Phase 2 will go from July to August, and crews will work on resurfacing Cleveland to Gumwood Rd/Main.

INDOT says there will be one lane open in each direction as well as a turn lane for traffic in the construction zone.

INDOT has made it a priority to complete this project before Notre Dame’s first home football game.
