St. Joe County Public Library Western Branch begins Diapers and Dignity Program

NOW: St. Joe County Public Library Western Branch begins Diapers and Dignity Program

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joe County Public Library began its Diapers and Dignity Program at the Western Branch Tuesday morning.

The program addresses a critical community need by providing accessible hygiene kits, including diapers, menstrual health, and hygiene supplies, through a self-service distribution model.

The program is supported by a $10,000 grant from Amazon Web Services.

Onjanette Dancler, Chief Financial Officer at St. Joe County Public Library, said, "Well the previous year, we only did hygiene kits, and we only did this branch, and this year, adding the diapers is what is really what's different. Just adding that other age range in there and being able to give them something that those parents really do need. Diapers can be very expensive. So, being able to give them something when they come to story time, sometimes, you know, kids have accidents. A parent has, you know, went through a few diapers during the day, so it's nice to come out of story time with something to help them. And hopefully they'll come back to story times again for the stories and the diapers."

Kits and diapers are available at both the Western and LaSalle branch locations while supplies last, although the LaSalle Branch will be closed for renovations starting May 11.
