SOUTH BEND, Ind. - ABC57 received several viewer tips of an ongoing lockdown at the St. Joseph County Jail.
The jail typically goes into lockdown for weekly security inspections but on Wednesday November 15 that lockdown lasted over a week.
The jail is divided into pods and slices and the lockdown is supposed to be slowly lifted by slice starting Monday the 27th.
That means the inmates have been unable to congregate in common spaces for at least 12 days.
During that time, they could still attend court hearings, communicate with family, watch movies, and listen to music.
The lockdown is expected to be fully lifted early next week, but it’s unclear where they are in the process.
We also don’t know why the jail is on lockdown.
We reached out to the jail and the police department for more information and an interview, and they declined comment.
