St. Joseph County man charged with robbery, possession of firearm with illegal automatic switch

St. Joseph County Jail

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- On Jan. 21 officers were dispatched to Comfort Inn and Suites on North Main Street in St. Joseph County regarding a robbery.

Officials say that a woman had been robbed on the second floor by a man who appeared to be around 19 or 20-years-old wearing a gray sweatshirt, jeans, and a backpack. The women told officers that the man had been armed with a firearm and left the scene in a gray sedan Uber.

Officer Murphy conducted a traffic stop of a gray Hyundai sedan with a Lyft light in the windshield traveling south on Main Street. Officer Murphy observed a man in the back seat who matched the description of the subject, identified as Diveil Quinn.

Upon exiting the vehicle, Quinn refused Officer Murphy's commands to face away and walk backwards towards the officers. Quinn then reached into the backseat of the vehicle, grabbed a backpack, and ran from the officers.

Officer Murphy and other officers pursued Quinn on foot. Another officer then deployed his taser and Quinn fell to the ground.

Officer Murphy located a loaded magazine in Quinn's front pocket and Officer Furlong found $310 in cash, clothing, and a Glock handgun with a pink "switch" where the back plate had been--altering the firearm to an automatic handgun rather than semi-automatic.

Diveil Quinn is charged with:

  • Robbery-Taking property from another by use of or threatening use of force (F5)
  • Possession of a Machine Gun (F5)
  • Resisting Law Enforcement - defendant knowingly or intentionally flees (Mis.)
