St. Joseph County Police Department welcomes new K-9

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department introduced a new K-9 Belgian Malinois-German Shepard crossbreed named Maverick as the latest addition to the department on Wednesday.

The two-year-old Maverick came to the U.S. from Poland in 2021, where he and his handler, Deputy Ryan Grochowalski, received training together at the F.M. K-9 Center in Berrien, Michigan.

The pair will serve as the new Correctional K-9 Unit for the St. Joseph County Jail.

Maverick has narcotics, detection, tracking, article search and aggression training.
