St. Joseph County residents to obtain permits before repairs to structures
The City of South Bend is reminding residents of the city and St. Joseph County to obtain building permits for repairs to buildings damaged by Monday’s flood.
The city says repairs or reconstruction to structures that are located in the floodplain and were damaged by the flood, will require a permit from the St. Joseph County Building Department due to a local ordinance.
According to officials, depending on the property’s location, a permit may be required from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources as well.
Homeowners that were impacted by the disaster, should contact the Building Department or 3-1-1 to schedule a storm damage assessment visit.
City officials note that failure to obtain the necessary permits could result in fines.
For more information on building permits contact the St. Joseph County Building Department at 574-235-9554.
