St. Joseph County Metro SWAT called in for shots-fired situation at River Pointe Apartments
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Police responded to the first of two shots-fired calls at 7:44 p.m. on Saturday near 110 Bercado Place, which is in the River Pointe Apartments complex, according to the Mishawaka Police Department.
Officers at the time did not locate anything during their initial investigation, and went back to service.
Police then returned again at 9:08 p.m. for another shots-fired call.
Witnesses on the scene directed officers to an apartment at 140 Bercado Circle.
37-year-old Joce-Joce Sergio Bueno answered the door when police approached, allegedly with a handgun in his waistband. Sergio Bueno then shut the door after police attempted to have him exit the apartment, according to officials.
As a result, the St. Joseph County Metro SWAT team was activated and all nearby apartments were evacuated.
Police report that Sergio Bueno did not leave the apartment until after tear gas was fired into it, and was then arrested without further incident early Sunday morning.
Detectives with the Mishawaka Police Department say that he was transported to the St. Joseph County Jail, and evidence was recovered at the scene.
No injuries have been reported from the incident.
Initial charges against Sergio Bueno are a misdemeanor charge of resisting law enforcement, while additional charges are pending and under consideration.
