ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- Superintendent Kristen Bawks received the highest rating during her annual performance review from the St. Joseph Public Schools Board of Education Monday.

The board evaluated her in eight areas including governance and board relations, stakeholder relations, employee relations, educational leadership, operations and finance. She also was scored on a student growth component and goal achievement.

Each component was rated on a three-point scale "effective, developing and needing support". Bawks received an overall effective rating.

“The board is proud to award Superintendent Bawks the highest rating of ‘effective’ in her annual evaluation,” Board President Kerry M. Wright II said. “Her leadership is rooted in strong relationships and a deep, personal understanding of our school community — gained through more than 21 years of dedicated service as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and now as superintendent.”

This is Bawks first year as superintendent, after the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Jenny Fee in July 2024.
