State police investigating inmate’s death

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.— Indiana State Police have opened an investigation into the death of an inmate at a state prison.

Police were contacted on January 21 by the Indiana Department of Correction regarding a death at a prison in Michigan City.

The deceased inmate was identified as Daniel L. Heflin, 30, of Goshen, according to Indiana State Police.

Heflin was sentenced to serve time in prison after he pleaded guilty to murder in 2012 in Elkhart Circuit Court.

Police did not release any additional information in regards to the ongoing investigation.
