State Trooper arrests Merrillville man during traffic stop

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.—According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, a Merrillville man was arrested late Tuesday night for possession of a controlled substance.

27-year-old Darrius Richmond was travelling on the Toll Road three miles west of South Bend when he was pulled over for several traffic violations, say ISP.

ISP says Trooper Mathew Drudge smelled marijuana coming from Richmond’s Saturn during the stop, prompting him to search the vehicle.

Richmond allegedly had 600 individual packages of Suboxone in his possession.

Suboxone is a narcotic and Schedule 3 controlled substance.

Richmond was arrested and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on preliminary charges of:

  • Possession of a Legend Drug
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Dealing in a Level 3 Controlled Substance
