Stray bullet found in a South Bend city building

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Officials reported that a bullet was discovered in South Bend's Department of Community Investment office on the 14th floor of its building.

Early investigation shows that the bullet entered the building through its east side and travelled through ceiling tile before coming to rest, officials say.

Nobody was in the building at the time the bullet struck the building.

Officials say the bullet is believed to have been fired during “celebratory gunfire” on New Year’s Eve.

The South Bend Police Department has taken a report and the investigation is ongoing.
