Student arrested after allegedly taking gun to school

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A Washington High School student was arrested after an officer located a firearm on his person, according to a release from the South Bend Community School Corporation.

Wednesday morning, personnel at the high school were informed a student may have a weapon on campus.

The school was placed on lockdown and the student suspected of having the weapon was searched.

When a firearm was found on the student, he was arrested, the release said.

The student is now subject to a mandatory one year suspension from school.

The incident is under investigation.
