Students at South Bend Schools to receive free breakfast and lunch for 24-25 school year
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Community School Corporation announced all students, regardless of income, will receive free breakfast and lunch for the 24-25 school year.
“We are excited to continue offering free meals to every student, making sure all our kids have the nutrition they need to succeed each school day,” said Dr. Todd Cummings, Superintendent of South Bend Schools. “This program ensures every child has access to nutritious food, which helps them focus and thrive in the classroom.”
SBCSC officials say all students will receive one complete breakfast and one complete lunch per school day at no charge and there's no other steps families need to take.
Officials say each student is automatically eligible to participate.
This program was made possible through the Community Eligibility Provision, a federal initiative which supports schools in low-income areas.
Officials say this is a partnership with the USDA and the Indiana Department of Education and is part of the district's efforts to create a nurturing and inclusive environment for all students.
