Students offended by question about slavery

DETROIT -- A history teacher and his school are getting unwanted attention after what his students are calling a lesson that offended them.

In an 8th grade history class where they were learning about the Civil War, the teacher posed a question "Would you rather be a factory worker or a slave?"

One student was shocked by the question and even more surprised that many of her classmates would rather be slaves than work in a factory.

"I don't want anything to be centered around my teacher because I really like him and I think he's a great teacher, The school is a great school. It's just that question is really offensive and it's disappointing what the responses were," said student Kaya James.

The question has since been removed from the teacher's lesson plans.

The school is now taking another look at how slavery is taught there.
