Sturgis double homicide suspect dead after police shooting

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. - The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office was requested to assist the Sturgis Department of Public Safety with a double homicide investigation on Saturday.

A 39-year-old female was found to have been shot on South Centerville Road near South Street in Sturgis. That victim later passed away from her injuries.

Police say the suspect was identified as 30-year-old David Keith Algarin Jr.

Deputies later responded to another residence to check for the suspect in the 31000 block of US 12.

Police say they then located another victim who had been fatally shot, a 61-year-old male.

Authorities stated just after 11 a.m. Sunday, officers from the Sturgis Department of Public Safety located the suspect driving through the City of Sturgis.

Officers along with St. Joseph County Deputies attempted to stop the suspect, who fled.

The pursuit ended in an officer involved shooting in Branch County resulting in the death of suspect David Algarin Jr.

The officer involved shooting is being investigated by the Michigan State Police.

At this time no further information will be released.
