Sturgis man arrested on 39 felony charges following traffic stop

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. – A Sturgis man was arrested on 39 charges following a traffic stop on Friday, the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office announced.

At 8:38 p.m., deputies performed a traffic stop on a vehicle for an alleged equipment violation in the 64000 block of Balk Road, reports said.

Deputies discovered the driver, a 40-year-old Sturgis man, was operating the vehicle without a license, according to reports.

After further investigation, deputies found fictitious state identification cards from three different states, tools used to counterfeit bills, blank business checks, and several counterfeited checks, reports said.

The man was arrested and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on 39 felony charges.
