Superstorm Sandy causes widespread power outages

Millions are in the dark on the nation's East Coast as Sandy continues to bring extreme weather.

In Michiana, thousands are also powerless after Superstorm Sandy brought strong winds to the Midwest.

Here are the lastest numbers from Indiana Michigan Power:

In Berrien County, the number stands at over 4,000. There are more than 700 people without power in St Joseph and Cass County and over 400 customers are in the dark in La Porte County.

Three school in Niles were closed due to power outages: Ring Lardner Middle School, Oak Manor Sixth Grade Center and Northside Child Development Center had classes canceled Tuesday.
