A burst of snow Wednesday evening
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. - A man is facing life in prison after allegedly invading a home and sexually assaulting two 13-year-old girls at the Sweet Lake Mobile Home Park and Camp Resort outside of Sturgis.
The incident happened in the middle of the night, March 20, 2024, however Friday afternoon, new details were released on a suspect.
26-year-old Miguel Hernandez- Ruiz is currently behind bars at the St. Joseph County Jail in Michigan awaiting trial following an arraignment.
Authorities say Hernandez- Ruiz is a Mexican National but was living in Sturgis at the time of the assault.
"His status is that he came here in 2021 on a temporary work visa. That work visa expired in December 2021, and he remained here,” said Undersheriff Jason Bangaman at a press conference held in conjunction with the Prosecutor’s Office Friday.
Hernandez-Ruiz is charged with one count of Home Invasion in the First Degree and two counts of Sexual Misconduct.
Law enforcement did not reveal if the suspect knew the victims before the attack.
Hernandez-Ruiz is being held on an immigration detainer and is not eligible for bond.
His next court date is scheduled for April 30, 2024.
