Suspect arrested in connection to fatal Cedar Glen Apartments shooting
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department says officers have made an arrest in connection with a fatal shooting at the Cedar Glen Apartments South Bend’s east side last month.
On Thursday, Jan. 18, South Bend Police were dispatched to the 400 block of S. 26th Street (Cedar Glen Apartments) on the report of a shooting.
Officers say that upon arrival, they located 51-year-old Dennis Cunningham, suffering from a gunshot wound. Cunningham was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Through an investigation and the processing of evidence by the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, 56-year-old Anthony Perry was identified as a suspect.
Police say Perry was taken into custody on Feb. 23 and, through a collaboration with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office, was charged with Reckless Homicide for his role in Cunningham’s death. A Firearm Enhancement was also added.
Perry is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
All persons are presumed innocent until/unless convicted in a court of law.
