Suspect arrested in double murder near Elkhart business

ELKHART, Ind. – A suspect has been arrested in connection to the deaths of two people found outside an Elkhart business on Sunday morning, according to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jose Benitez-Tilley, Jr., 19, of Goshen is in custody for the deaths of 22-year-old Haley Smith and 37-year-old Dustin Carr, reports said.

Benitez-Tilley, Jr. was arrested on Sunday by the Elkhart County Homicide Unit.

An investigation found that Benitez-Tilley, Jr. had been inside the business as it was closing and killed the two victims, according to reports.

Investigators say the killings were targeted to the specific victims and the public is not at risk.

The bodies of Smith and Carr were found when another employee arrived for work Sunday morning, reports said.
