Suspect displays Airsoft pistol, shot by MSP Trooper
HASTINGS, Mich. – An investigation was opened after a suspect who allegedly displayed an airsoft pistol while resisting arrest, was shot by a Michigan State Police trooper Monday evening.
According to MSP, a trooper located an individual who was wanted on four felony warrants in a church parking lot around 6:30 p.m.
The trooper drove into the parking lot when the suspect tried to leave in his vehicle.
Officials say the trooper blocked in the suspect vehicle with his patrol car when the suspect, got out and allegedly displayed a pistol while ignoring the trooper’s commands to drop the weapon.
It is reported the trooper then shot the suspect.
Shortly after his arrest, troopers learned the pistol brandished by the suspect was an Airsoft pistol.
MSP says the suspect was taken to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
This case is now being investigated by the Sixth District Investigative Response Team.
