Suspect in double homicide fighting extradition

The man accused of killing two people in Coloma, then fleeing the state with his two daughters was in court in Clear Creek County, Colorado on Monday.

Alex Perez has been charged with two counts of first degree murder by the Berrien County prosecutor.

In court, Perez said told the court he wants to hire a private attorney and will be fighting extradition to Michigan.

His next hearing is scheduled for February 22.

Perez is accused of killing 27-year-old Renee Mitchell and her father John Mitchell. Their bodies were found January 14 in their house in Coloma.

A family member found the bodies and discovered Renee's two children, Luna and Nova were missing.

A Clear Creek County deputy investigating a suspicious vehicle located Perez and his daughters in Georgetown Colorado in the early morning hours of January 15. Perez has been held in Clear Creek County since then.
