Suspect in strong arm robbery arrested
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Police arrested a suspect in a robbery early Wednesday morning.
Police were called to the 4000 block of W. Western around 4 a.m. to investigate a robbery.
During the investigation, they identified a suspect as Sylvester Griffin Jr.
Griffin was taken into custody and booked into the jail on preliminary charges of strong arm robbery and violating a protective order, police said.
The case has been sent to the prosecutor’s office.
UPDATE: Griffin pleaded guilty to a lesser included offense but mentally ill for the robbery charge and pleaded guilty but mentally ill to invasion of privacy in May 2021 as part of a plea agreement. He was sentenced to three years in prison for the robbery charge and one year in jail for the invasion of privacy charge with credit for 183 days. He was sentenced to time served on the invasion of privacy charge. The 3 year sentence will be served consecutive to his sentence in another case.
