Suspect pleads not guilty in double attempted murder at Laurel Woods Apartments
The man accused of attempting to kill two people at a South Bend apartment complex plead not guilty to six felony charges in court Monday.
Marvin Hill Jr., of Dowagiac, is charged with rape, two counts of attempted murder, criminal confinement and two counts of battery with a deadly weapon.
Hill is accused of raping and stabbing a woman, and stabbing a man in an apartment in the Laurel Woods complex early Friday morning.
Downstairs neighbor Denny Rosell says he made the 911 call when he heard screaming coming from the victims’ apartment.
“There’s a lot of kids upstairs, it was always noisy. But this was more a cry for help,” said Rosell.
According to court documents, police had to force their way into the apartment where they were immediately confronted by Hill.
Police say inside they found a female victim with a stab wound to her abdomen. Four of her children, all under the age of eight, were inside screaming when police arrived.
While Hill was put in handcuffs, police say they heard reports of a second victim.
According to police, the male victim suffered a stab wound to his collarbone but was able to escape the apartment to look for help. He was found lying in front of a family member’s apartment in the same complex.
Both victims were treated at the hospital and are recovering from their injuries.
Hill remains at the St. Joseph County Jail awaiting his initial hearing on August 30.
