Suspect taken into custody following brief standoff in Topeka
LA GRANGE COUNTY, Ind. -- A 31-year-old man who allegedly fled from officers, then barricaded himself in an apartment was taken into custody following a brief standoff Thursday afternoon.
Thursday morning, Travis Fullington was spotted in Rome City in a Chrysler minivan that had been reported stolen, reports said.
Officers located the van and attempted to make contact with Fullington, but he drove off in the van, reports said.
The van was later located in the parking lot of the Topeka Trace Apartments by Topeka Police. A resident confirmed Fullington had barricaded himself inside an apartment where he had access to a shotgun and several rounds of ammunition, according to police.
Officers attempted to get Fullington out of the apartment but he did not come out, reports said.
The Indiana State Police SWAT Team made additional attempts to get Fullington out of the apartment. The SWAT Team made entry and located Fullington hiding in the refrigerator, police said.
He was then taken into custody without incident.
No one was injured as a result of the arrest and the stolen vehicle was recovered.
The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office, Topeka Police Department, Wolcottville Police Department, Rome City Police Department and the Indiana State Police were all involved in the case.
