Suspect uses tire iron during robbery

South Bend Police are looking for a man suspected of hitting a convenience store clerk with a tire iron during a robbery attempt on Monday afternoon.

Police say a tall white male in his early 20’s walked into the Mini Mart on Prairie Avenue to ask about a few prices.

South Bend Police say the suspect pulled a tire iron out of his waistband and threatened to hit the store’s clerk before demanding cash.

When the clerk opened the cash register, the suspect struck him with the tire iron.

Fortunately for the clerk, he was able to block the strike but in doing so, cut his hand.

Police say the suspect also tried punching the clerk before fleeing the scene in a red minivan.

Anyone with information on the suspect or this incident is asked to contact South Bend Police.
