Suspected swatting call made on home across from Whirlpool Technology Center in St. Joseph; no threat to the public
ABC 57 ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- A call made to Berrien Springs Police Department is being investigated as a possible swatting incident.
St. Joseph police officials tell ABC57 that a call came in from a California number shortly after 2 p.m. The called allegedly claimed he had two people at gunpoint at an address on Upton Drive in St. Joseph.
The home is directly across the street from the Whirlpool Technology Center; the facility went on temporary lockdown during this incident.
Police did not find a gunman nor victims in the house, nor any connection to the reported situation.
The scene was cleared at about 2:30 p.m.
Witnesses tell ABC57 that they saw heavily armed officers running down Upton Drive, and that they were told to stay indoors.
