Suspects arrested after running car stolen from store parking lot

DOWAGIAC, Mich.—Five suspects were apprehended after a car was stolen from a parking lot when a woman left it running while she went into a store on Saturday.

According to police, on Saturday February 16 around 6:05 p.m., officers were called to the Northside Liquor store in the 600 block of North Front Street regarding a stolen vehicle.

The victim told police she left her car running while she went into the store to make a purchase.

When she returned to the vehicle a few minutes later, she found that it was missing, according to reports.

The victim gave officers a description of the vehicle and shortly after the initial report, a Cass County Sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle on Dewey Lake Street in Wayne Township.

Following a brief pursuit south on M51 North, the vehicle stopped near the intersection of M51 and Elm Street.

Five subjects were taken into custody at the scene.

Two of the suspects are 17-year-old males from Benton Harbor and were brought to Cass County Jail on charges including receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle.

The other three subjects were juveniles. Two of the juveniles were released to their parents. The third juvenile, a 15-year-old Dowagiac resident and alleged driver of the stolen vehicle, was taken into custody.

The vehicle was not damaged during the incident and was returned to the owner.
