Suspicious item removed from the roadway

The suspicious item reported on US 31 near the bypass has been removed.

St. Joseph County dispatch says they received a call around 3:48 p.m. about someone who stopped in the middle of the road, put a cooler in the median, then drove off.

Dispatch says a passerby stopped, picked it up and left.

Police do not know what was in the package or who took it.
