Takata representative answers questions on airbag recall

On Thursday, a senate committee meeting was held in Washington D.C. to discuss the Takata airbag recall.

For the first time, a top executive from Takata answered questions about the potentially dangerous airbags.

“We are deeply sorry about each of the airbags that have not performed to design. Our airbags continue to be safe and save many lives every day,” says Hiroshi Shimizu, Takata's Vice President for Global quality Assurance.

Currently, Takata is unwilling to expand the recall.

Lawmakers are looking into just how long Takata knew about potential problems before they became known to the public.
