Teacher struck while trying to break up fight between students
ELKHART, Ind. -- A teacher at Elkhart High School was knocked to the ground and struck several times while attempting to break up a fight between two students, according to Elkhart Police.
A school resource officer was notified around 10 a.m. Wednesday about a fight that happened in one of the classrooms.
Police learned two students got into a fight in front of approximately 20 students, reports said.
The teacher intervened and stopped the fight but was knocked to the ground and struck several times by the students as they continued fighting, reports said.
The students were both taken into custody on preliminary charges of disorderly conduct.
The 15-year-old student was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
The 18-year-old student, Cody Charters, was taken to the Elkhart County Jail.
