SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The United States won Olympic gold in women’s ice hockey Thursday night, beating Canada 2-1 in overtime at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games.

Megan Keller scored the winner in the extra period after captain Hilary Knight tied it late in regulation.

The championship carried a Notre Dame connection on the U.S. bench.

Head coach John Wroblewski, played four seasons at Notre Dame from 1999-2003 before a professional career.

Assistant coach Josh Sciba also has Irish roots. Sciba graduated from Notre Dame in 2007 and played for the program from 2003-2007, later building a coaching career at the college and national levels.

After the final horn in Milan, U.S. players and fans celebrated a win that came down to the final minutes and carried familiar pride back in South Bend — two former Irish skating into Olympic history from behind the bench.
