Teen arrested following trespassing incident, running from police

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. – A teenager was arrested after allegedly running away from deputies and getting into a physical altercation with them following a trespassing incident, the Marshall County Sheriff's Department reported.

At 3:03 p.m. on Sunday, the Sheriff’s Department was called to the 3200 block of 3rd Road in Bremen for reports of a suspicious person trespassing on a property, reports said.

Deputies located the alleged trespasser, identified as 18-year-old Landan Shelt of Elkhart, and Shelt ran west in a field on the northwest corner of S.R. 331 and 3rd Road, according to deputies.

Deputies located Shelt and he allegedly resisted, deputies said. A physical altercation took place before Shelt ran away again, deputies said.

Shelt traveled through two more fields before being taken into custody, deputies said.

Shelt was checked by EMS for heat exhaustion and a laceration before being taken to the ER to be further checked out medically.

He was then taken to the Marshall County Jail and faces charges for the following, deputies reported:

  • Trespassing
  • Resisting law enforcement
  • Battery on police officer
