Winter 2026 was the coldest and snowiest in almost a decade
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- The Kosciusko County Sheriff Department responded to a head-on collision around 8:49 p.m. on Thursday night between a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox and a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
The double fatal crash happened on Old Road 30 east, west of Brallier Road in Washington Township, Kosciusko County.
"Preliminary investigation determined the Hyundai, was driven by 24-year-old Manuel Apolinar Tlahuetl of Warsaw and the Chevrolet was driven by 54-year-old Heather M. Rice of Columbia City, Ind.," authorities said. "For reasons yet to be determined, the two vehicles collided head-on on Old Road 30 west of Brallier Road."
A passenger in the Equinox sustained internal injuries and is listed in critical condition in a Fort Wayne hospital.
The accident remains under investigation by the KSCO FACT team.
