OAKLAND -- The Detroit Tigers extended their season after beating the Oakland Athletics on Thursday.
Tigers standout Justin Verlander threw a four-hitter in the decisive fifth game.
The Tigers will face the winner of the Yankees/Orioles game.
The Yankees and Orioles are tied at two games in the best of five series.
Game one of the American League Championship Series is scheduled for Saturday.
