ELKHART, Ind. -- A somber day for the Elkhart community.
Ben Jeffery, one of the victims in the horrific mass shooting at Martin's Supermarket in Elkhart, was laid to rest this afternoon in Goshen.
The funeral was at The Vine Church, where Jeffery attended, with friends and family filling the building to honor his life, which was full of service to others.
The Elkhart community honors not just him, but also Annasue Rocha, who both lost their lives prematurely in the tragic shooting.
"This is the first funeral so the family for our for Ben Jeffery grieving today and obviously this celebration of life is a is a tough one. And then Anna Sue family will be having her Celebration of Life this coming Friday. And so, the community is still grieving with the family. And so, we want to make sure that we're here to support and at the same time, hopefully help us be able to begin the process of healing and healing after a tragedy like this is tough," stated Mayor Rod Roberson.
Friends and family say that Ben was in the process of authoring a book about grief, as he lost both his wife and kids to a house fire in the 90's. His family hopes to finish and publish the book on his behalf.
