The haze over Michiana

You may be wondering about the haze hanging over Michiana today. Much of it is due to the ongoing wildfires burning in Canada. In Michiana the air quality index (AQI) has been more than 200 in some areas, which is considered very unhealthy, especially for the elderly, small children, and people with breathing problems. Everyone is advised to limit their exposure.

Take a look at some of the haze hanging over South Bend and the Notre Dame campus.

Strong winds throughout Canada and the Midwest have pushed the bad air into the Michiana area. ABC57 meteorologist David Caulfield says it looks like the haze will hang over the region until tomorrow at least.

The wildfires in Canada have been burning for several weeks now, most recently impacting air quality over Europe, as well as other parts of the United States.

ABC57 will have much more on the air quality and its impact on your life tonight beginning at 5 p.m.
