South Bend man charged in the shooting death of baby boy pleads not guilty

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend man facing charges for the shooting death of his one-year-old nephew has pleaded not guilty.

Joseph Troupe is charged with reckless homicide and three neglect of a dependent charges, including neglect of a dependent causing death.

Police say Troupe left a loaded gun in a bedroom of his sister's home on Amhurst Ave. in South Bend.

They say Troupe's own two-year-old son got his hands on that gun and shot and killed the one-year-old.

Troupe faces a minimum of 20 years and a maximum of 40 years in prison if convicted on the neglect of a dependent resulting in death charge.

The judge set his bond at $100,000.
