MISHAWKA, Ind.—Former Niles barbecue spot Prized Pig is preparing to open a new location in downtown Mishawaka.
The Prized Pig is set to open on September 20 at 114 Lincolnway East serving both lunch and dinner. Originally, the restaurant was hoping to open on Thursday but due to inspections, have had to push the opening to Friday at 5 p.m.
Co-owner Jeremy Vohwinkle says he’s just happy to be back serving up barbecue to the Michiana community.
“We’re glad to be back. I know people missed us and they missed our food. We’ve done a lot to get this back on the map, and we’re just happy to be here and we know that people are waiting to get into the door so we can’t wait,” Vohwinkle said.
The restaurant’s sign went up and the first meat hit the smoker on Tuesday.
“There’s a lot happening downtown Mishawaka. We’re looking forward to all of the developments. And we think there’s a good need for barbecue in this area,” Vohwinkle said.
Menu offerings include appetizers like jalapeno poppers and loaded tots and entrees including smoked chicken and beef brisket.
“The Squealer” is the restaurant’s signature pulled pork sandwich topped with macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and fried onions.
The restaurant offers dine-in, carry-out and catering options.
The Prized Pig will be open Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight.
