Third annual Southwestern Michigan esports tournament announces winners

CASSOPOLIS, Mich. -- On Saturday, Nov. 8, Midwest Energy and Communications (MEC) held the third annual Fiber Cup esports video game tournament at Southwestern Michigan College (SMC).

The third Fiber Cup was held at the MEC Esports Arena inside SMC's Barbara Wood Building, with prizes on the line including Steam Decks, handheld gaming computers produced by Valve for every member of the winning team, gift cards for the second and third place winners, and donations to any and all schools affiliated with the top three winning teams.

Competing at the Fiber Cup were 10 teams of three in a double-elimination Rocket League tournament. The winning team, Scary Aftershock, was unaffiliated with any school.

In second place was Wildcats, from Jenison High School, and in third place was Ball Chasers, of Tecumseh High School.

Also in attendance were teams representing Bangor High School, Watervliet High School, Constantine High School, Marcellus High School, and Ross Beatty High School in Cassopolis. In addition, the teams also featured students from Lawrence High School, Detroit Catholic Central High School, and Coloma High School.
