Three firefighters injured after partial structure collapse in Wednesday house fire
ABC 57 SYRACUSE, Ind. -- Three firefighters were injured after a partial structure collapse at a house fire late Wednesday night.
Turkey Creek Fire Territory responded to a house fire in the 700 block of E. Northshore Drive in Syracuse around 11:25 p.m. Several area departments also responded for mutual aid.
Crews arrived to find a large home on with heavy fire.
Fire officials also noted a vehicle was witnessed leaving the scene actively on fire.
The report states conflicting information about possible occupants in the home led crews to begin an aggressive attack along with search operations.
While inside, a partial collapse occurred, trapping two firefighters, before being safely rescued.
Another firefighter, from Tippecanoe Township Fire Territory, was injured from falling debris outside the residence.
The three injured were taken for medical treatment and have since been released.
Fire officials say due to the complexity of the structure, extensive hidden void spaces, and deteriorating conditions, operations continued into Thursday morning.
An excavation crew was called in to assist in safely extinguishing hotspots.
