Three killed in crash on US20 in La Porte County
The La Porte County Sheriff's Department says three people died in a crash on US 20 around 7 a.m. Friday morning near Rolling Prairie.
It happened on US 20 near CR 300. The sheriff's department says a passenger car was traveling west on US20 and a semi was traveling east when the two collided.
The three people in the car were killed.
They were identified as 22-year-old Judith Peachey, Rosalie Koehn and 17-year-old Lanie Nace. Peachey is from Goshen, Koehn and Nace are from Greensburg, Kansas.
The semi driver was not injured. He has been identified as Joseph M. Green, 41, of Mishawaka.
Deputies said the weather in the area was poor at the time of the crash, but there has been no determination whether that was a factor.
Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as a factor.
US 20 between SR39 and SR 2 was closed during the cleanup and investigation. The road reopened around noon.
This is the second triple fatal crash on US 20 in the last two months. On January 17, three people were killed in a four vehicle crash on US 20 near Fail Road.
The day before, on January 16, two people were killed in a crash involving a vehicle and a semi in the 700 block of US 20 in Michigan City.
