Three rescued from the Dowagiac River

NILES, Mich. – Three women were recused from the Dowagiac River Sunday evening after the inner tube they were using flipped over.

According to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, emergency crews responded to the river near Bluff Street around 6:15 p.m.

They found two women were struggling to get to shore and one was hanging on to a tree after the single inner tube they were sharing flipped.

Deputies say the women were safely pulled from the water.

The women were not wearing life jackets.

Following this incident, the BCSD reminded those who participate in water sports to stay safe by wearing flotation devices.
