Three Rivers High School student dies in St. Joe River

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. --  A Three Rivers High School student died while swimming in the St. Joseph River on Wednesday afternoon, according to Three Rivers Police.

Three Rivers Police and Three Rivers Fire were called to the area of Thomas and King streets around 1:30 p.m. after 16-year-old Marco David Chapman, who was swimming in the river, was swept away by the current.

Police and fire searched the river bank and the St. Joseph County Dive Team and St. Joseph County marine Patrol searched the river for Chapman.

After searching for 3 hours, a dive team member located Chapman's body.

Chapman was a student at Three Rivers High School and police said the Crisis Response Team will be providing support for students.
