Tips on caring for Christmas trees

ABILENE, Texas. -- With December first just around the corner people are starting to pick out Christmas trees.

The size, shape, and species of Christmas trees you buy is all up to you but we wanted to give you some tips from a tree expert.

"When you're buying one, one of the things you want to make sure is that it's not dry," said Phil Stone, Lowe's Home Improvement. "You don't want to buy one that has any kind of browning at all and you want to make sure the needles aren't loose so they're actually good and firm on that stem."

And it's not just picking out a tree. They say once you get it home it's best to cut two inches off the base and the temperature of your home can make a difference in how well the tree holds up.
